On December 4, 2024, Nepal and China signed the Framework for Belt and Road Cooperation, marking a significant milestone in their bilateral relationship. This framework builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2017 and aims to further enhance economic and infrastructural cooperation between the two countries. The framework outlines key principles, objectives, priorities, and mechanisms for cooperation, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, infrastructure development, and connectivity. Notably, it includes ambitious projects like the Trans-Himalayan Multidimensional Connectivity Network, which involves the construction of cross-border railways, highways, and transmission lines. This comprehensive framework underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering sustainable development and regional integration through the Belt and Road Initiative.
